Blog Tour KALKIN by TL REEVES & MICHELE RYAN

Keeley Blueriver is not doing a very good job hiding out. After being viciously attacked, she and her sister Danielle pack up and move across the country to Window Rock, Arizona. But Simon found them before, and he’ll do it again. How and when are the only questions.

Kalkin Raferty, Alpha of the Raferty pack, has spent his life protecting his family and pack from outside threats. He believes his time for finding a mate has passed. Who would want an old Alpha wolf?

A chance meeting puts Kalkin face to face with his destiny and now he can’t get the blonde-haired, hazel-eyed woman out of his mind. His wolf is poised to claim her, but with danger lurking around every corner, is he willing to risk everything to have her?

“Where the fuck is the baby?” He kept his voice controlled, knowing the pup was safe and sound with Danielle—for now. Kal tried in vain to keep his voice down so their neighbors couldn’t overhear their conversation. As it stood, he still wasn’t sure how he felt about Keeley. Well, he did, but acknowledging the mating and participating in it were two totally different things. Right now, they didn’t need any extra headaches. However, he had a sneaky suspicion he was in over his head and he was too stupid, or ignorant, to admit it.

“He’s with Danielle.” Caden shrugged, moving around his brother. “The boy was in his pup form when I got him. I couldn’t take him to a hospital and you know if I took him to a vet—which there isn’t one in a twenty-mile radius—they would have freaked out if he spontaneously shifted. So, I brought him back here.”
“You don’t think the girl will freak the fuck out when he spontaneously shifts, Caden?” Kal couldn’t believe what his brother said.
“No,” he answered plainly.
“No?” Kalkin snorted. “I have got to hear this explanation. Come on, lay it on me. Tell me, ‘oh smart one,’ why she won’t freak the fuck out when the baby shifts.”
“She’s not normal either.” A slow small crossed his brother’s lips. “She got this…thing. I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone about it, but bro. She’s special.”
“Great. Fan-fucking-tastic. So, she could have a serious case of gas, but she’s special.” Wow, he knew his brother could be stupid sometimes, but this was a colossal fuck up. It ranked right up there with the time they were sixteen and Caden decided he was going to pull the tail of a cat shifter. The asshole ended up in bed for a week with tiger claw slashes to his side.
“I’m being serious, asshole,” Caden snapped, going nose to nose with his brother. “She helped the pup more in five minutes than a hospital could in two fucking weeks. I promised her I wouldn't say what it was, but I felt her. She did something to him and he was a different pup when he woke up.”
Kalkin blinked, taking in everything his brother said. A part of him wanted to believe his brother and another part of him wanted to continue to chew his ass. He also realized he should be more concerned with the pup. Kal blew out a breath and scrubbed his hand across his brow. “How bad?”
“Two broken legs and some bites. Danielle thinks he’ll be fine. She wrapped the wounds and set his back legs.” He chuckled a bit. “Aiden ate up the attention when I checked on them after Mrs. Martin hooked me up with some breast milk for the boy.” Caden turned serious for a moment. “I don’t know why Tiffany had fucking pups. She couldn’t even take care of herself when we were younger. Then she goes off and gets fucking pregnant. The bitch tried to kill him!” Kalkin watched his brother pace. “Aiden is now parentless. Why? Because she doesn’t have enough fucking sense to bring all the pups to her Alpha.”
Wait. “There are more?” He couldn’t believe Caden would take one and leave the others. “Why did you leave them?”
“Aiden is the only one who survived.”
“Fuck.” He’d have to deal with this sooner rather than later. “Do we know the father?”
Caden snorted. “If I had to guess? Someone in the Quincy pack. The kid smelled of piss and shit, though, so I couldn’t be sure.”
“Shit. Not what we need right now, but because you went off half-cocked, you brought shit down on our new neighbors.” Kalkin couldn’t even be angry anymore. He understood Caden’s need to protect the baby. However, it couldn’t be at the expense of two women who’d been through their own shit. “What are you going to do when Aiden shifts and is a baby?”
“Well, I had been thinking about it when you pulled up to house like Billy Bad Ass. I’m going to tell her what we are.”
What? “Are you fucking kidding me?” He couldn’t believe what his brother was saying. “Why?”
“Tell me you aren't planning to do the same.” Caden's blue eyes swirled with intent. “Tell me you weren't going to have Keeley run with you during the full moon.” His brother had him. He had been contemplating revealing himself during the first day of the summer festival.
“Shit,” he said, blowing out a frustrated breath. “This is all FUBAR.” Fucked up beyond all recognition.
“Tell me about it.”
“You’re part of the reason, asshole.” He turned away from his brother and caught his neighbor staring at him. “Great.”
“What?” His brother stepped over to where he was standing. “Ah, shit.” There, peeking out of their window, stood Keeley, Danielle, and a very happy little boy. Shit, maybe his brother had been right.
“Yeah, great fucking work, asshole. I’m betting they saw and heard everything. So much for having to explain it to them.”
“Hold on. You’re assuming they heard anything. They’re completely human. They couldn’t hear a flea fart.”
“I thought you said Danielle is special.” Kal cocked a brow. “Or were you blowing smoke up my ass about her?”
“She is. I can assure you what I experienced when she started working with Aiden,” Caden paused. “Shit, bro. It was amazing.”
“Are you sure she was touching the pup?” he quipped.
“Yes, dickhead. It wasn’t sexual at all, but it had been amazing nonetheless.” Caden’s blue gaze locked with Kal’s and his demeanor turned serious. “She’s my mate.”
Of all the fucking things he expected his brother to say, finding his mate hadn’t been one of them. “Shit. Are you sure?”
“Oh yeah.”

Nicola

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you fall down and can’t be bothered to get back up.

My entire life had been one endless beating, and I’d reached breaking point.

I was done.

Until a letter gave me the strength I’d been missing.

Those precious words gave me enough courage to dust myself off, to try one more time.

In that moment I realized something.

I wasn’t done.

Not even close.

And I had an entire family I didn’t even know existed standing at my back.

Irish

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when putting powder up your nose is the only way to make it through the day.

My life took a wrong turn, so I poisoned my body in an attempt to escape.

I was done.

Until I found salvation on the back of a bike.

With nothing but the open road and the wind in my face, I found the courage to live.

In that moment I realized something.

I wasn’t done.

Not even close.

And my family might not be blood, but they were standing at my back.

Prologue - Nicola, 9 years old

The house is dark and eerily quiet as we make our way toward the front of the residence where the ‘formal living room’, as Mrs. Smith likes to call it, is located.  I have no idea what it looks like inside, as the door is always firmly shut. Mrs. Smith pointed it out to me when she showed me around on my first day here and told me that the room was strictly off limits. Stepping inside or even opening the door earned you an immediate punishment.

I’ve come to learn that within these walls, all it takes is a wrong word to earn you a punishment. Or in my case, speaking to the wrong person.

How was I to know that I couldn’t speak to the beautiful lady with the black hair and green eyes wearing the black vest over her brightly colored blouse? She was friendly. Mrs. Smith was very angry when she saw the two of us talking. She sent me inside with an angry rebuff and told me to wait for her in the kitchen. Talking to a stranger earned me a night in the punishment box.

The nightly curfew of eight o’clock has come and gone, meaning all the other children are in bed. Tucked under their covers, lying on a comfortable mattress, cozy and warm, waiting for sleep to carry them off to dreamland. I hear Mr. Smith’s shuffled footsteps upstairs, going from room to room and switching off the last of the upstairs lights, bathing the house in darkness.

I hate the dark, only because I'm afraid of what I can’t see, making falling asleep difficult for me. Every bump and creak startles me, and my overactive imagination conjures up frightening pictures which leaves me shaking in my bed. Voicing those fears gets you nothing, and especially not much-needed comfort. The Smiths don’t believe in such things.

“Hurry up,” Mrs. Smith hisses, pushing me to walk faster. “We don’t have all night.”

I want nothing more than to drag my feet, draw this out as much as I can, but I know that it will only be delaying the inevitable.

The closer I get to the room, which houses the punishment box, the sicker my tummy feels. Suddenly we’re there.

Mrs. Smith flicks on the light switch, bathing the room in light. The walls are unadorned, painted a stark white color, the floors dark polished wood. The smell of the lavender-scented beeswax used on the floors lingers in the air. Thick white curtains that are closed cover the large window, making the room cold, dark, and foreboding.

Directly in front of the drawn drapes sits a large wooden chest. The dark wood of the box is rough and weathered, the intricate design that was painted on it eons ago faded.

The faint odor of bleach pours out when Mrs. Smith opens the lid. The smell makes my stomach turn even further, as well as making my nose burn and my eyes water. The box doesn’t look very big, and I wonder how I’m going to lie in there the whole night.

Mrs. Smith gives me a push toward it, clearly wanting me to get in. Climbing into that thing is the last thing I want to do, but a glare from Mrs. Smith forces me to do so, and quickly.

“You’re not to move from here till morning, not even to go to the toilet. A word of warning—if you wet yourself, you’re going to have to lie in it all night, and come morning, you’re going to be scrubbing the inside of that thing. With bleach. Leaving the box means another night of punishment. Is that understood?”

I just nod and try to hold the tears I can feel burning the backs of my eyes. I lie on my side and seconds later the lid slams shut, plunging me into darkness.

The crash of the lid echoes in the small space and right through my body, causing me to shake. I’ve just gone from a brightly lit room to total darkness in a matter of seconds. I raise my hands to the front of my face, but I can’t see them. I try again and again, but the result is the same. I begin to panic, bile slowly rising from my stomach. I beat at the roof of the box with my tiny fists, my voice small and sobbing at first, growing louder with each passing second as I beg to be let out. A swift kick to the box silences me. I wrap my arms around my belly as my breath comes out in rasps.

“Shut up,” Mrs. Smith shushes. “You’ll wake up the whole house with your screaming. If you do, you’ll be spending another night in there.”

Another night?

I cringe, my muscles tensing, my body going rigid. I hold my breath to stop myself from whimpering out loud, my eyes stinging with unshed tears. Silence fills the box. I hear Mrs. Smith’s footsteps as she walks out the room, turning off the overhead light, the click of the door shutting letting me know that I’m alone.

I take a deep breath before curling into a ball, pulling my nightshirt over my legs. Despite it being the middle of summer, the temperature sticky and humid outside, it’s cold within the confines of the box. I can’t stop shivering. I lie as still as I can, my small hands clapped firmly over my ears.

After a little while, my hip starts to hurt from lying in a fetal position on the bare wood. I try to find another comfortable position, but I don’t think there is one inside this box. It’s meant to be uncomfortable; it’s a punishment, after all.

One night within its confines is supposed to make you grateful for everything the Smiths do for you on a daily basis. They’re the ones who took me in when nobody else wanted me. They provided me with a roof over my head and three meals a day. They provided the clothes I have on my back and even the opportunity to go to school and learn.

The last thing I feel is grateful.

I would trade it all in to be back in the small trailer I called home. To feel my momma’s arms around me as she read me a bedtime story. I would even gladly eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the rest of my life, if it meant that Momma would make them in her own special way.

The older children had warned me that the punishment box could be frightening the first time, but it would get easier each time. I don’t think that’s even possible.

I’m scared.

Terrified of the endless darkness that surrounds me.

My eyes are closed tight, my arms wrapped around my still trembling body. My chest feels tight, and breathing in and out has become difficult. A wave of dizziness hits me, leaving my whole body weak. My heart is beating so fast, almost like it wants to jump right out of my chest.

I try my hardest to conjure my mother’s image in my mind. I want her beautiful face to comfort me, her voice to whisper soothing words to calm me, her arms to wrap around me and hold me close.

Momma, I miss you so much!

I allow the tears I’ve been holding in just minutes ago to fall freely. Here in this box, I allow myself to cry knowing that I won’t have to explain my tears to anyone. Won’t have to risk punishment for mentioning my mother. Mentioning her name within the walls of this house has been forbidden. I’ve been told to forget about her existence and the life I had with her. But how do I do that when I miss her every day?

According to the Smiths, I’ve been given a second chance at redemption, by God and his earthly church. A chance to have my mind, body, and soul cleansed of the evil that flows through it. That’s why I was brought to the Smiths. They are going to make sure that by the time they’re done with me I am good and pure. Ready to serve in whatever capacity I’m needed within the church. The woman who birthed me and the biker scum who fathered me will be nothing but a distant memory.

Amy's 4 star ARC Review of Hound (Cerberus MC 2.0 Second Generation, #2) by Marie James

My first job with the Cerberus MC was to grab a girl from a seedy bar. Easy money, right?

The moment I realized the blonde I was hunting wasn’t around, I ended up captivated by a redhead dancing on the stage. With her striking features and sinful body, I knew she was trouble, but that didn’t stop me from making her mine that night.

When I learned that she WAS the job, everything became clouded.

I was only looking for a one night stand, but when the dust settled and she ran, my only desire was to chase her.

Should I risk my job, and quite possibly my life, in order to have her? Would she even stay if I caught her?

So I love Marie James back in the Kincaid - Kid and Shadow days. I’m not saying I don’t love this series. I do. Why .. because you still get to see what the guys are up to. Hound is the second book in this standalone series. If you want to catch up go grab Lawson first.

Hound is a retired Marine looking for a family. Trying to set his place in the MC he is to go fetch a girl by the name of Georgia Anderson. The girl dancing on the stage isn’t her and his pick up is no where in sight. The red head on stage will just have to occupy his time.

Gigi or Orphan Annie wants the man giving her his eyes. Little do either of them know that one encounter will lead to a whole lot of trouble.

The first few chapters I seriously was flabbergasted - I was giving myself the face palm just because of .... yup no spoilers.

This one is a good read. Love the banter on all parties and the characters are well written. Click it up and enjoy! Thank you for the ARC.

Amy's 5 star review of One Last Snowy Christmas by A.F. Crowell

With every flake of snow that falls, Scott and Maria O'Loughlin are treasuring each individual moment with their three boys home under the same roof once again.

Cooper O'Loughlin has had a hard year. Home from his latest deployment, the Army Special Forces soldier is looking forward to Christmas with his wife and family. If only he could shake the feeling something had changed while he was away.

Storm O'Loughlin left home with a purpose,- only to return for holidays and not to look back. While catching up with old friends, in walked the woman who used to be the center of every fantasy he ever had. He has one week to make her his or walk away for good this time.

Ashton O'Loughlin might have been the youngest brother, but he was growing up and ready to take on life. With this last Christmas before graduating high school, he knew this was his final opportunity to make his move on the girl next door - who happened to be his very best friend.

Three brothers, one holiday, and too much about to happen, Scott and Maria share their love and their family before everything changes forever. One last snowy Christmas to hold onto hope or let go of everything as it was before.

This book contains mature content not suitable for those under the age of 18. Content involves strong language, violence, and sexual situations.

Ok so I know Christmas is over but I stumbled across this book. Why did I click -- the cover. Just look at it. How perfect. So in clicking up with NO idea what I was about to read I absolutely was gifted a gem. This is a novella that introduces us to a family of three boys raised by their father and now step-momma after their real mother leaving and never looking back a few years earlier. We open the book with Scott and Maria's wedding -- here we are introduced to Cooper -- Storm -- and Ash. The O'Loughlin boys --

Years have passed and the boys are all grown up -- none of them have had a completely happy life -- heartbreak -- confusion -- and sacrifice swirls around each of them in a different way.

Cooper is home for the holidays and fresh from deployment. Needless to say the mix of emotions of his own marriage falling apart along with his attraction to a woman he should not be attracted to much less in love with.

Ash is in love with his best friend since Kindergarten -- the only problem .. as crazy as it will seem and sound -- the silly girl doesn't feel the same way. Ash is nothing more than like a brother to her. A person she can count on forever -- she doesn't see Ash in the same light as he does and Ash's heart is broken.

Storm is trying to forget or remember why the love of his life and he called it quits. Running in to her again could prove worthy of a second chance or a second disaster.

Amy's 4 star ARC Review of Crude Possession: Crude Souls MC Standalone by Kathleen Kelly and Maci Dillon

A life void of the physical, emotional and mental abuse she has endured most of her marriage, is all she's dreamed of for years.

When Cindy, who now calls herself Callie, sets foot in Coomera, her life finally begins.

Malakai, son of the President of Crude Souls MC instantly feels responsible and protective of Callie, sensing she's hiding who she really is. But what, or who is she hiding from?

When Callie's past returns to haunt her, Malakai takes it into his own hands and engages the Crude Souls to provide protection. By default, she becomes club property.

At the risk of losing her freedom, Callie can't bring herself to walk away from Malakai, knowing he's sacrificed his life of freedom to keep her safe. To keep her alive.

Will Malakai's crude possession be Callie's true awakening or will she find herself lost in another world of torture?

NOTE: There are definite triggers for those who might not care for heavy abuse and rape depicted graphically in scenes in this book. If you are a victim or do not care for this type of read then please do not click this book.

Callie is escaping from a brutal marriage -- Missy is going to help her get out. It's risky and it could cost her the life she lives but what kind of life is it. She needs to hide -- change everything and start over. Stopping in a diner to grab a bite and relieve some tension; a knight in shining armor may just have appeared - or a forbidden man. Either way this is not what Callie needs.

Malakai. A man who sees a broken woman and wants to protect her. In protecting she becomes property of the MC. He will risk everything to keep this woman safe. Even if that means risking his life.

This book moves quickly and is not as in depth as I wanted it to be. However, I will say it's a good collaboration between two talented authors as Kathleen is one of my favorites. I know that we will see more of this very intense MC family and in fashion of hers continue to be caught up in all of the members lives -- certainly with more drama and more protective men helping strong women.

Thank you for the ARC and the chance to read! I do recommended hanging on to this series of standalones and starting the journey with the Crude MC. Please do however remember the trigger warning. If you can handle it definitely click this one up.

Amy's 5 star ARC Review of HUNTER: Southside Skulls Motorcycle Club (Southside Skulls MC Romance Book 7) by Jessie Cooke

What happens when the man you’re hunting, is the father of the woman you can’t get off your mind?

And why would you be interested in a woman who has already attacked you once, and will do it again if she has to?

Hunter Donovan has just walked into a world of trouble, while doing his job as a Bounty Hunter, and looking for the man who killed his brother.

This is the 7th book in the Southside Skulls MC Series. It is a Standalone Romance Novel but characters from the previous novels, DAX, CODY, GUNNER, ZACK, LEVI and KAT are included in this story too.

The Southside Skulls MC Series is about members of the MC club, their associates, and friends.
Each story, while focused around one or more main characters, is not necessarily about a Southside Skulls club member, but the story is related to Skulls members and the club.

HEA and No cliffhanger.
Intended for Mature Readers

Hunter Hunter Hunter - first of all just look at the cover. Seriously that alone - I was in. I’m not the hot guy cover drooler - I’m the this completely embodies the total package of who Hunter is.

So moving on! Hunter is a bounty hunter after his man. Nothing will stop him on this kill because this is the man who killed his family. While hunting he gets more than he bargained for - a sassy hell bent woman named Claire. But there is a problem .. Claire happens to be the daughter of his prey.

Claire does not need this crap in her life. A biker who is not only a man to be reckoned with - a man she doesn’t need - a man who is dangerous.

This is a great read. We see back in to the lives of our other MC family which is fantastic! I love this series and all the characters. I love the story lines - although these are standalones - I encourage you to click them up and make friends with this bunch.
