Amy's 4.5 Star ARC review of Ugly by Margaret McHeyzer

**2.99 on pre-order and 3.99 on release date**

If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to see.
If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to feel.
If I were dead, he'd never raise his hand to me again.
If I were dead, his words wouldn't cut as deep as they do.
If I were dead, I'd be beautiful and I wouldn't be so...ugly.
I'm not dead...but I wish I was.

*This is a dark YA/NA stand-alone, full-length novel. Contains violence.

Holy jeez – A new author to me and she floored me. This is a YA is young adult and NA is new adult. Meaning the story starts off with Lily (the main character) is 17 (the prologue she's 12) until she's in her mid 20's. Im not saying this is for a 13 year old girl but the message needs to be heard by young women. In fact it needs to be yelled from the top of the mountain. Be strong, protect yourself, believe in yourself and embrace your beauty inside and out. Reach out for help because someone will be there .. possibly even a stranger.

Upon diving in you encounter Lily hiding from her abusive father. He is drunk and she is praying he doesn’t get to her. Lily doesn't have any love in her life much less necessities and for sure there are no materialistic items. She has never had popcorn, she has never been out anywhere, she doesn’t get to have a soda here and there because those things aren’t allowed. Never knowing how it feels to be loved she meets a man ... Trent changes all of these things ...

Trent was her savior .. or so she thought. Leaving one abusive man for another Lily continues to feel she is worthless, ugly and doesn't deserve to be happy. She thought Trent was going to love her. She thought he was the one to take away her pain and suffering but he only began to see what her father saw. It was her .. not them.

This story is so realistic that its completely haunting. Lily is the picture of so many young girls out there. Some may not suffer the abusive relationships on both ends of the spectrum meaning no loving parents but one side is enough. Two is morbid and heartbreaking. The message is powerful. I will tell you there is an HEA so that you are inclined to click it up. The pages will keep you turning effortlessly and wishing that you could reach inside the pages and dash Lily to safety.

Excellent read Margaret. I love finding new authors and you sucked me in with a whole heart. Thank you for the ARC. Review to appear on Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
