Review of Only For You by Genna Rulon

The heroine is a fighter and smart, she is not weepy and weak.” I have no idea where to start with my review of Only For You by Genna Rulon. I was and still am absolutely stunned, amazed, empowered and definitely in love with this woman’s work. Let me say also that this is not my normal read so for me to fall in love with this series means it is exceptional. From her attention getting epilogue, her sense of humor, the gravity of the situations and message, to the definitive yet sobering conclusion, Only For You was a 5 plus star read for me. This story takes places on the Hensley University campus where a string of violent attacks on the female population continue to escalate. To keep the morale up, Hensley University offers a self-defense course. That is where Everleigh (Ev) and her best friend and “sister” Sam meet Hunter Charles, the course instructor. Right from the start, Ev and Hunter end up bickering and she is subsequently kicked out of class. To make it worse, Hunter ends up in her Business Strategy class and that is where the fun begins. These two have insane chemistry and their exchanges are hysterical. After coming to a VERY wrong conclusion about Hunter, she starts a crusade for him to become complete the package of three just like the Three Musketeers. Through the course of the semester, Ev and Hunter become very close but never cross the line of friendship. The way this relationship unfolds is undoubtedly beautiful and there is no doubt that you will be devoted to these characters. Meanwhile, the attacks on the female student body grow more frequent and brutal. Tragedy strikes the intimate circle of friends. Robbie, Griff, Hunter, Sam and Ev’s lives will all be changed forever. It will break your heart and empower you all at the same time. Other key characters are introduced throughout the story and will have you wondering who the culprit is or if its even anyone we know as of yet. I also want to mention that this author did a fantastic job with her research centered around violence against women. Genna took a very difficult subject and handled it brilliantly. That being said if you cannot read stories that involve rape please be warned this book may not for you. There are no graphic descriptions but the understanding is there. I will leave you to decide for yourself. Again I cannot stress how empowered I felt for the characters knowing “survival” was the message written in to this incredible journey. Only For You does not have a cliffhanger per say but you will want to read on and one click the next book. Pieces For You is already out and continues by Genna giving us Sam’s story. It is just as magnificent as I am devouring every single beautiful word of it now.
