When we first met, we were both lost. It was written in our eyes when we first saw each other. My past haunted me, your present haunted you. I could see that you were aching, yet trying to bury the pain deep down so that no one would know, but it was there. I saw it. I saw you.
I thought you needed me to swoop in and save the day; to be your hero, your knight in shining armor that would ride in and rescue you from the torment. And something inside drove me to a place I'd never been before. A place where it didn't matter how stacked the odds were, because nothing would stand between us. Nothing would stand in the way of me being the savior you needed me to be, and I'd go to hell and back to protect you. I thought you needed me, but I was wrong.
It's me who needs you. I need your heart next to mine in order to get over what I've been through, and to push through the obstacles that are in our way now. It won't be easy. It'll be the hardest thing either of us has ever had to endure, but as long as we make it through together, it'll all be worth it, because you're worth every bit of the struggle. It's because of you that I can stare death in the face and not feel the slightest hint of fear. You make it all okay. You're worth it. You’re worth saving.

This is a story of two very lost people in two very different ways. Layla and Austin.
Layla has run from a crap past. She came to her current job at the Red Pony four years ago with only intentions of staying until she got on her feet. Running from her sick Father, she had no where else to go and never ended up leaving. The money was good and it was the way on the outskirts of Vegas. It was quite and could be worse. Things, however, went south leaving Layla wanting out and trying to find her way once again. She tired of this life but the hands of an evil man, Damien Baxter, are keeping here where she doesn’t want to be.
Austin is struggling to survivor his last deployment. The Raptor Team went in and it should have been a routine exercise of getting the men out. When the dust cleared the young man under his command was gone. He didn’t listen. Austin told him to get down and back up to his seat where he belonged but he wasn’t hearing him. The Sikorsky HH-60 Pave Hawk Helo took a few hits but it should have been okay. It would have been okay if Lieutenant Weston would have just listened to him.
Austin sees Layla sitting alone and decides to speak to the beautiful woman. However Layla isn’t interested. She knows there is no future and Damien has taken his toll on her. Austin sees the sould that needs saving. He wants to be what she needs but in the end the pages flip.
There is so much sadness in this book but it’s a good read. The events are drawn out and maybe they just hit a little too close to home for me with my other half. The suffering of a PTSD soldier is not an easy life for anyone including those he loves. The story is drawn out and again for me maybe it was too much because I have personal experience. If you don’t know the issues then you would appreciate the extra chapters and in depth storyline. The characters are real and its easy to see their pain. Click it up friends if you want a brutal love story along with a story of survival. Its good. Give it a chance! Everyone is worth saving.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
Thank you WS.
