Amy's 4 star ARC Review of Behind his Walls by B.L. Mooney

Sometimes there are monsters hiding in the people we love. Monsters we don’t see until it’s too late. As a psychologist to abuse victims, I see the damage those monsters can cause every day and the hell the women go through to regain their lives.
My experiences in life are a double-edged sword. Without them, I wouldn’t understand the women who seek my professional help. Having them has ruined me for any woman. I refuse to let history repeat itself. I know the statistics of what should become of me, but I’m fighting the monster inside of me every day.
I can’t turn my back on any woman who needs my help, and Dr. Lindsey Perkins is no exception. With an escaped convict she helped put away after her, she needs my protection more than anyone. But when she gets too close, who’s going to save her from me?
I’ve built these walls for a reason. A reason Lindsey is determined to uncover. It’s better for her to only know me as Dr. Hatcher and leave Joseph behind the walls.

4 stars

Lindsay and Joseph – two psychologists in different fields of study. One loves the criminal minds while the other helps abuse victims. One needs protection and the other needs saving. Can yo guess who is who?

Joseph helps women get their life back. His personal experiences led him to his practice. His monsters are those he keeps hidden and is why there are no attachments to anyone. There will be no relationships because anyone he would be with would deserve more. He does not do many repeats and certainly does not get attached. Joseph cannot let history repeat itself. He cannot let what he feels is born into him hurt another. Lindsay cannot be with him. He certainly cannot ruin anything with her but when she needs protection how can he let her fend for herself. She says she doesn’t need him and he knows he is playing a dangerous game. Circumstances brought them together this weekend but Joseph has to keep himself distanced from her. Its going to be very hard with the game she is playing. But knowing he cant turn his back on a woman who needs his help whether he knows it or not is no exception …. Especially when that woman is Lindsay.

Threats have been made from one of the men Lindsay put behind bars. She is terrified but she knows she cannot allow Joseph to care for her. He referred to her as his colleague! Not friend, not anything more for sure … she has to get away. She feels ridiculous and rejected. There is no way she is staying with him no matter what he says. She will handle the threats and her safety alone while getting Joseph out of her mind.

There are many twist and turns in this book. Lots of secondary characters and a few things I needed to read again to clearly understand and not in a bad way. There are a whole lot of emotions and issues going on throughout these pages. I wanted to knock both of these characters heads together but it kept me moving in the story. Good read and always good to find a new author.

I received an ARC for an honest review.
