Amy's Review of Watching Fireflies by Jaycee Ford

Synopsis

Jordan Hawthorne thought she had it all until a surprise for her fiancé turns into losing everything that she ever wanted. She flees her home in Charlotte, North Carolina to take a new job in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and make a new start where her ex-fiancé can’t find her. Jordan is just beginning to adjust to her new life in the middle of nowhere when a small town cowboy walks in and disrupts it all.

Tom McCloud never had time for a serious commitment, always too busy with running his grandparents’ farm. Everything changes when he stumbles upon a broken-hearted city girl and a steamy buzz ignites between them. But what happens when the city girl can’t stay hidden in the country for long?

Jordan our lead female was in heaven finishing her masters early and on her way to surprise her fiancé a day early. You can see where this is going. Knowing Ryan had a routine and was very organized she didn’t want to barge in on him. After knocking quite a few times she decided to use her key to what would soon be her apartment. Being bold she headed towards the bathroom where she heard the shower running and to her surprise …. Hello! Yup her man had company.

Bolting for the door Ryan becomes aggressive with her refusing to let her leave. Struggling to get away she takes the first chance she has and flees the apartment. Jordan is devastated and heads home for the summer. Her life has taken a turn other than where she thought she would be. Ryan texts Jordan non stopped and calls even more. Jordan ignores him and demands he stop. After a night out Ryan finds Jordan and she realizes the only way to really get away from her past is to leave town.

Jordan gives her her job for a lesser one, leaves the city and intends on starting over and that is where she finds the young man named Tom. How she encounters Tom is quite interesting to say the least.

Tom is taken with the woman he sees in front of him. He doesn’t do relationships but this girl takes his breath away. But this girl has a past that is holding her back and Tom intends on finding out just how high and how hard those wall are around her heart.

This is a decent story. A little over the top for me in the whooo and goo department. Jordan refers to Tom quite often as “cowboy” which at one point made me a little eh after a while. There is a small element of danger in the end of the story but nothing too rough or combatively rough for what I am used to. If you like a nice romance of this sort then you will love this book. The genre is just not my favorite. The characters were a little young for my taste as well but again I will say if you love this genre then you should pick this up.
