Amy's 4 star review of Marked. Part I: The missing Link by J.M. Sevilla

Synopsis

Warning: This book contains violence, excessive language, and strong sexual content. It's intended to be read by mature audiences.

Part one of a two part series.

There are three things Lily Evans immediately notices about her new neighbor, Jay Lincoln. The first is his monstrous size, the second is the malicious way he glares at her, and thirdly, but most importantly, the three scars that mark his right eye. She knows the smart thing to do is stay away, but she has never met or seen anyone like him. The more time she spends with this frightening yet captivating man, the harder it becomes. He can make her hairs stand on end but he also has a sweetness to him that tugs at her heart. Soon she finds herself merged into his world full of murder, revenge, and deceit.

Lily Evans is a character you might need to learn to love as she is broken but don’t give up on her. I admit I wanted to scream at the pages a few times but hang tight. I promise you – just hang tight! Lily Evans is back home living with her mother and two younger brothers after ending a disastrous two year relationship with her verbally and physically abusive ass hat of a boyfriend. After finding the strength to leave him Lily finds herself hating how she became a very different girl during her lengthy relationship. She doesn’t even recognize herself through the scars still present and the scars that have physically healed. Where is her life to go now after such wasted time? Who is she?

Before Christmas dinner, and her family addressing the elephant in the room which of course is Lily herself, Lily’s mom forces her to parade herself across the street so that she can invite the reclusive yet intriguing neighbor over to come celebrate the season instead of being alone. What she encounters is a dangerously sexy and scarred man who promptly sends Lily on her way with his frightening accusations, evil and rough demeanor. There are three things Lily Evans immediately notices about her new neighbor, Jay Lincoln. The first is his monstrous size, the second is the malicious way he glares at her, and thirdly, but most importantly, the three scars that mark his right eye. Lily knows she should be scared and stay away but with so much loss of herself and not knowing who she is anymore she refuses and why can’t she stop thinking about the captivating stranger?

Fate has other plans for Lily as she ends up crossing paths with her mysterious neighbor, Jay Lincoln, once again. The pair develop a tentative relationship despite Jay’s hot and cold messages he keeps giving off towards Lily. Even though Jay seems to be keeping deep and dark secrets and attempting to keep Lily at arm’s length, Lily can’t help but see past his stoic and hard edges. She catches glimpses of a gentleness and a sweetness that call to her. At the same time, Jay is finding it hard to keep all his carefully guarded walls up around Lily. He has never met anyone that sees him in the same light that Lily sees him. He wants her desperately even though he knows she can be in danger because of it.

Despite Jay’s efforts to keep Lily from his savage world, Lily is jolted in to darkeness. Not wanting to spoil anything Lily slowly learns that Jay’s and is secret life is all about brutal ferociousness, violent confrontations, lies and deceit. She finds herself merged into his world full of murder, revenge, and deceit. Can Lily being the fragile soul she is already get tossed back in to something other then ordinary or can she become a strong and courageous take no shit woman. If she cannot let go of what she shares with Jay she wont have a choice. Jay and Lily’s survival stand alone on decisions of fighting or walking away.

I must mention that this book is smoking hot. You are going to need a fan for the fire inside ladies so if this is NOT your cup of tea then walk away. If you want to miss out on Jay Lincoln then move on. J.M. Sevilla, did a fantastic job interweaving searing and intense heart-pounding moments.

Marked. Part 1: The Missing Link is one hell of a start to this series. The book does end leaving more of the story to tell. It is not a horrible cliff-hanger where you want to hunt down the author, you know what Im talking about but the story has much more to tell. Marked Part 2: Becoming Noah Baxter is out now and free as well on Amazon!
