Amy's 5 star review of Taking The Heat (Selected Sinners MC Book 2) by Scott Hildreth

Synopsis

After serving half a dozen tours in Afghanistan and Iraq as a US Marine, Cambio Todelli - known as Toad to his MC brothers - is left with a penchant for violence and no emotional attachment between his heart and his groin.

As the Sergeant at Arms for the Selected Sinners MC, Toad has one assignment and he takes it very seriously. Keeping his Brothers safe from harm at any cost.

Although he believes he ultimately stands for what is moral and justified, he admits sometimes the lines simply become blurred. In short, Toad is a walking contradiction. The descendant of a long line of prideful Italian American US Marines, he is now living a far cry from his upbringing in the Catholic church.

Sydney Shephard is an orphan, and has recently lost her only sibling, an older brother, to a lifelong prison sentence. After losing her job, she is now homeless, penniless, and without any form of family or friend.

As easy as it may be to do so, she refuses to lose her spirit, her spunk, or her sense of humor.

After having been in multiple abusive relationships in her past, Sydney has vowed to either live a life of solitude, or find a man who will treat her as an equal.

When a bank robbery goes awry, leaving Toad on one side of the bank, and Sydney on the other, Toad must make a decision and make it quick.

And when Toad decides to do something, heaven help anyone who tries to stop him.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Taking The Heat is a stand-alone love story. No other book is required to tell THIS tale. It does contain explicit language, sexual situations, and the intricacies of being in an Outlaw Motorcycle Club. All sexual partners in this MC Erotic Romance are over the age of 18. Stand alone love story. HEA. No cliff hanger. Taking The Heat is Book II in a series of stand-alone MC Erotic Romance novels.

Review->
5 stars US Marine, Cambio Todelli – oh yes. This is his story. Otherwise known as Toad to his MC brothers. Its so hard for me to review a book that includes anything related to a solider dealing with PTSD. The stories end up consuming me as I have daily experience with this in relation to my husband who suffers and the volunteer work that I do through charities. In an odd way the stories bring me a sense of calm. Scott gets it – he understands and isn’t just writing crap or hasn’t just done “research” in order to hopefully portray the truth attached to this horrific disease. This is a phenomenal story. Not only do you get Toad’s story but we get a glimpse back into what Shane, Ripp, Kace, Vee and yes … A-Train are up to. The scene between A-Train and Toad had me breathing erratically in complete understanding and an emotional wreck. But moving on lets get to it .. Cambio Salvadore Todelli aka Toad is a former Marine raised as a good Catholic boy with morals and three generations (father, grandfather, great grandfather) of role models. His father and he don’t see eye to eye though leaving him wary of visiting his parents. His Nono is his anchor. Toad sees things as black and white, good vs. evil. He has no reluctance about killing if the person has brought evil upon themselves. This man tore my heart out and held it in his hands; survivor’s guilt, nightmares, brutal strength in good and honor, felt pain in the most touching situations; … it was absolutely gut wrenching. Sydney Shepard is homeless. A victim of the foster system and her only brother imprisoned for a crime he did not commit framed by the ATF, she has hit rock bottom. In a uncanny situation; Toad saves Sydney. Being honest with nothing to lose Sydney confronts head on where and who she is; knowing laying it out to Toad is the best thing to do. She is strong and somehow she will crawl from the hole she is in. This is not a wham bam love story and one of the many reasons I devoured it. Anyone who knows a solider with PTSD knows that is an impossible plot line. I love the other characters you meet in this story, I love the screaming tree, I love it all. For goodness sakes just read it! You don't have to read book 1 in the series to read this one, but I recommend that you do because it is also an excellent book. If you haven’t yet read the “Un” series with the other boys I suggest you click those up as well. All of Scott’s books are available through Kindle Unlimited. Next up ... Otis Next Next up ...
