Amy's 4 star Review of The Australian by Lesley Young

Synopsis -

From the best-selling author of The Frenchman and Sky's End Series

"Quite possibly the best book I've read this year...and I have to say, absolutely the best virginity losing scene I've read in a book so far!"-- Wicked Reads

"If you hate books where you know from the beginning how it will go, then The Australian is for you! You won't see anything coming!" -- Living in Our Own Story

Imagine leaving behind all that you know and starting over halfway around the world. Imagine you've got no gut instinct to rely on, no natural-born ability to read people or sort out lies from truth. Imagine your heart goes haywire every time you stare into a certain pair of deeply mesmerizing dark eyes. Now you're in Charlie Sykes' (highly sensible) shoes . . .

Charlie Sykes takes everything and everyone at face value, and believes life would be a lot easier if everyone else did, too. Jace Knight, international Aussie hotelier and purported playboy, has never met anyone like the absurdly literal and obliviously beautiful American who applies to his personal assistant position.

The trouble is, how do you seduce a woman whose definition of flirting comes straight out of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? That, and he's not the only one after Charlie. Seems Mr. Knight may not be a reformed criminal after all.

Charlie soon finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of dangerous international espionage that takes her from the hip streets of Sydney to the majestic Great Barrier Reef and the wild, desolate outback. A terrible trap's being laid, but how will Charlie protect herself and prevent a devastating betrayal when she can't even sort out what her heart's telling her?

Advance Praise for The Australian

"The Australian is a fierce clash of mind, body and soul. Young does not disappoint!"--The Demon Librarian

"I really loved Charlie Sykes. I think she has become one of my favorite female characters of all times." --Living in Our Own Story

The Australian – Lesley Young
4 stars

I loved the character of Charlie because just let me tell you she reminds me of a female Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. I was cracking up within the first chapter. Having said that I will tell you the Australian slang of a few characters we meet was a little rough at first but eventually you are able to pick it up. Charlie has picked up and moved to Australia after watching a certain movie and the passing of her mother. She finds herself with no job, with no place to live and interviewing for her 7th temp job. Enter Mr. Knight. No this is not another 50 Shades; this book is packed with romance, intrigue, suspense, nicely “developed” characters AND shoot-out which includes a high speed chase across the outback. The Australian pretty much has everything. While reading I thought I knew and then I didn’t and then I thought I knew again but NOPE! Mr. Knight (Jace) is a man who knows what he wants and goes for it, and he definitely wants Charlie. I laughed out loud at most of the interactions between these two and I bet you will too. (Think Sheldon). HA! Of course the multimillionaire has met his match in this cat loving, brainy girl just trying to start again. By the way you will end up loving Miss Moneypenny as well; the cat. Although this book is a love story it is for sure jam packed with intrigue. The storyline runs aways with Jace and Charlie allowing you to intertwine with two vastly different people traveling a road together and taking risks that are incredibly on two different ends of the spectrum in order to break away from their pasts. One Click – hilarious and romantic all on the same pages. This is a winner for me!
