His Angel (Trident Security Book 2)
Samantha Cole
5 emotional stars
Samantha Cole’s first book, Leather and Lace, in this brilliant new series was exceptional. If you have not been properly introduced to the men of Trident Security stop now, go back and one click the first book before diving into book two, His Angel.
In giving you a quick refresh as you know the men of Trident are all former Navy seals who have formed their own security agency. Brothers by blood, Ian, team leader and interrogator, and Devon ‘Devil Dog’ Sawyer, breacher and lead climber are also co-owners of a private, elite and highly secure BDSM club called The Covenant which they owned with their cousin Mitch. Brody ‘Egghead’ Evans, team computer geek and master hacker, Marco ‘Polo’ DeAngelis, communication specialist and helo pilot, Ben ‘Boomer’ Michaelson demolition and explosives expert also the youngest member who had just joined the team in the last book, and Jake ‘Reverend’ Donovan, team sniper and younger brother of Mike; owner of Donovan’s pub.
Jen Mullins, Ian’s goddaughter and surrogate niece of all the men, returns of course in this book along with Kristen, Will, Roxanne and Kayla London. We also get mention of Nick, another Sawyer brother still serving, John Sawyer who died tragically, and lastly the Sawyer boy’s parents, Charles and Marie. Drum roll please, yes, T. Carter is back burning up the pages of His Angel; -- yes -- Mr. Black Ops himself. SWOON!
Now we have that covered let’s get on with it shall we? Ian prides himself on being single. He loves the Dom life as it serves his “no relationship” purpose and everything is laid out in black and white between he and his subs. After having his heart blown into a million pieces by his fiancé’ Kaliope, ten years ago he vowed to never let anyone that close to him again. He tried his best to please her but she swore he wasn’t romantic enough, anticipate what she needed. Ian found being a Dom/Sub relationship allowed for no misunderstandings of exactly a woman wanted or needed. The openness and honestly of the lifestyle was one of the things that drew him in.
Angelina 'Angie' Beckett moved to the area after leaving NYC. She wanted more for herself and found that doing freelance graphic design projects would get her out of that dreadful city. Not only was she doing well but she had just been hired to do a cover for a new BDSM series being published by Red Rose Books. Angie noticed Ian immediately and met him briefly while helping her new neighbor, Brody move into his house. She thought the beautiful man named, Ian took notice of her as well but what she thought she saw disappeared as quickly as it came. She hasn’t spoken to either of them since but her heart is full as her best friend James Athos is finally able to visit. His time in the Marines in Special Forces was hard enough for her but with Jimmy going undercover with DEA there would be times she wouldn’t hear from him for months. Jimmy had lost family members in tragic events; way too early in life and Angies parents having had her when they were older had pasted dying of natural causes in their late fifties. Her older brother was killed in a car accident when she was nine leaving Jimmy and Angie losing everyone they loved and only having each other. Jimmy joined the ranks of DEA due to his mother and sister being murdered by a drug dealer after his sister had gotten in with a bad crowd.
Only separated by the chain link fence with all the guys and gals gathering for a BBQ at Brody’s, Ian watches as the woman who made him stand up and take notice is getting her feet rubbed by the stranger and a small encounter at the fence, he already knows he doesn’t like this man. When Angie goes inside to get her shoes to his surprise Jimmy comes back over and quickly tells the boys he needs to see them tomorrow. He mentions Carter advising them that Carter told him he could trust the men with his life and Angie’s.
Setting up the meeting , Ian put a call in to Carter knowing he would return his message as soon as he could but not knowing where Carter was it could be a day, weeks or even a month before they heard back. Going on with the meeting even after finding nothing on this James Anthos, the men’s questioned are answered as Jimmy informs the guys he has decided to go back under cover in New Orleans after another agent Aaron Reinhardt, working undercover, was tortured and killed along with his family. No one knows how he was “made” of if they broke him. The only person who knows Jimmy’s real identity along with his past is his handler Artie Giles. Same went for Aaron so something wasn't sitting right. Jimmy intended on finding out by putting himself in deep.
Jimmy informs the guys that Artie knows about Angie and also knows how to get her to safety if anything goes wrong. He also wants Trident on her making sure she is safe. There is no telling what could happen to her and he would never forgive himself. Jimmy also informs the guys that Angie knows a special phrase that will signal whether or not Jimmy actually sent anyone for her. If they use the phrase in casual conversation when speaking to her she needs to get out and get out fast. This request set up the perfect way for Ian to spend time with Angie but also catapults in motion a chain of terrifying and unforgettable events; events that will forever change Ian and Angie.
Once again Ms. Cole has set us up with two incredible story lines. I mean this is beyond brilliant if you ask me. The ability to be able to mix two emotionally gripping stories into one spectacular outcome is pure gold. Not only has Ms. Cole written an incredible series thus far, her characters have “life.” There is nothing better than feeling that as if you could reach out and touch the person on those pages or potentially meet that person on the street. The reality she brings to each character stems from Ian rescuing his beloved dog Beau and the Sawyer boys parents doing charity work in third world countries overseas. Chapter 20 will break you it hits so close to home and if it doesn’t for you then count your blessings that you have never experienced such an event. I had to compose myself as I was reading. I was overcome with grief and loss. As a reader you might think this is not something you want to feel but trust me, if an author has the power to make engulf you into the story as Ms. Cole does, it’s a gift. Own it; don’t discount it.
Ian and Angie’s story is hilarious, sassy, wicked and ruthless all at the same time. There is pain for Ian that almost drives him over the edge. His heart is being tested by Angie along with his ability to protect Jenn. The banter between the guys is never dull and will make you laugh out loud. I chuckled, fanned myself (hehe), and jumped up and down numerous times throughout this epic adventure.
The cliffhanger in His Angel had me spitting my drink all over the place; not only with shock but also with all consuming laughter. I have been clued-up by Ms. Cole, receiving word that book three; Waiting for Him – Boomer’s story is coming soon. A little birdie also told me that I will get my wish from my prior review which was begging for Mr. Black Ops himself, Carter’s story in book seven. This little tid bit of information had my running around the house screaming with delight knowing we readers will have at minimum then five more books involving out sexy six (or pish posh let’s not exclude him) sexy seven with Mr. T. Carter.
Ladies grab this series up. It is AMAZING. It makes me want to snatch all your Kindles and one click them for you. Go – Now – what are you waiting for?
